A SAMPLE OF STUDENT ENDORSEMENTS

Catherine Huang

I had Ms.Flores as my early morning teacher back in seventh grade (2008) when I first moved to New York from China.

Just like me, there were two other girls who transferred to my middle school at the same year not knowing any English at all. We were kind of isolated from the others but Ms.Flores helped us to adjust to the new environment quickly.

As a language teacher, she taught us ESL from the basics and helped our school work in every subject. Not only Chinese and English, Ms.Flores knows 12 languages in total which made her class extra interesting when we can learn more about other culture.
Having her class as my first class year is a very memorable experience to me. She’s more than just a language teacher. Ms.Flores was always there when we needed anything and we can talk to her about anything. I’m blessed to have her as my first teacher in New York.
(Catherine recently graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School.)

I found Mrs.Flores as a very nice, kind and helpful teacher. Mrs.Flores was the very first teacher that I had in U.S. I was in 8th grade in 2009-2010
I didn't know how most things works in U.S. school system. Mrs.Flores was very nice and kind to me, and would efficiently explain to me whatever I don't understand. She was also very patient with me when I still don't understand after she explain to me.

Mrs.Flores also help me set up an email in a professional manner when I needed one. She is also very significant to me because she help me pick my high school, which I loved for 4 years.
(Alice graduated from Henry Street School for International Studies and studied at Brown University for the summer before entering her freshman year at Drexel University. She is currently studying Computer Science.)

I had Ms. Flores as my Chinese language teacher in 6th and 7th grade from 2009 to 2011.

Ms Flores incorporates unique teaching techniques to help her students learn and explore new things. Not only does she makes sure her students are engaged in lessons, she also takes time out to help students who are struggling or falling behind.
During class, lessons are not always based off a textbook because sometimes we are shown a film as a way for us to better understand the language in both the speaking and listening aspects.
As a student, I felt compelled to go to class knowing that there is something new to learn each day.
(Grace was a student in the Gifted & Talented class at I.S. 318. She will be entering her senior year at NEST+M High School.)

I had Ms. Flores as a teacher for the entirety of my junior high school career from 2006-2009, and I can say without a doubt she was responsible for the majority of all the good memories I have there.
As an eleven year old Hispanic boy entering Chinese (the class she taught) I could remember my parents telling me to drop it because it seemed to be a very difficult class. In all honesty, I barely knew Spanish so to try to learn Chinese was kind of a reach. However Ms. Flores never backed down and was committed to help our entire class learn! She was so committed that what originally started out as a “Shop Class” (basically a free elective) turned into an actual foreign language class as the School Administration saw how dedicated she was to her students. Not to mention all the help she was outside of the classroom!

Junior High for me and a lot of my friends was a life changing experience in the sense we struggled to figure out who we were. Ms. Flores understood this and always served as a mentor or a life coach of sorts. Whether it was talking to us about the glories of gmail, why having neat handwriting is one of the greatest skills ever or just understanding that some days her students need to have a fun class experience instead of a lecture.
She’s the only teacher I can remember that the class had an inside joke with. For instance, I liked talking about flying monkeys a lot in her class. So when the majority of the class was stressed with exams she allowed me to do a presentation on flying monkeys in Chinese instead of having an exam that day!
She is without a doubt one of the best teachers I ever had and any school that is fortunate enough to have her will never regret the decision to have hired her. She’s one of the only teachers I know that can entertain a class while also teaching them and probably one of the only teachers I can say without a doubt cared for her students.
I’m sure I can speak for all my friends when I say I was more than honored to have been invited to her wedding and I hope she knows she was also a big part of all of our lives.

Mrs. Flores is a teacher with dynamic characteristics, always holding her students to the highest standard. She has the unique ability to both hold authority and a fun learning environment that some of her fellow educators may lack, presenting a friendly and highly educational environment for her kids.
Having her as a teacher challenges you morally and mentally as the type of classroom presence you don't want to disappoint. The material she assigns can be difficult, but she is very willing to provide help where it is needed.
Her curriculum and personality brought out the best in me and my peers, something that, in my experience, many classes fail to do.
She is a teacher of the highest class who establishes a mutual respect between herself and her students, establishing one of the best learning environments I've had the pleasure to be in.
(Warren was a member of the National Junior Honor Society at I.S. 318. He went on to graduate from Stuyvesant High School and will begin his freshman year in the Fall at SUNY Binghamton.)
